One of the nice things about looking at a bear is that you know it spends 100% of every minute of every day being a bear. It doesn’t strive to become a better bear. It doesn’t go to sleep thinking, “I wasn’t really a very good bear today”. They are just 100% bear, whereas human beings feel we’re not 100% human, that we’re always letting ourselves down....

I’ve seen things you people wouldn’t believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched c-beams … glitter in the dark near Tanhauser Gate. All those … moments will be lost … in time, like tears … in rain. Time … to die.
Only after the last tree has been cut down,
only after the last river has been poisoned,
only after the last fish has been caught,
only then will you realize that money cannot be eaten.
If you’re ever on fire, I think it’s best not to look in a mirror, because that will really get you in a panic.
